Gulabo Sitabo a film by Soojit Sarkar is the first mainstream Bollywood film that is directly released on OTT platforms before releasing on the big screen, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushman Khurana. This film basically revolves around Two scheming men get caught up in a game of one-upmanship, each one attracting other members to their clan and each one with an agenda of his own basically about an old haveli 'Fatima Mahal' in the city of Lakhnow. The movie starts with a kathputli street show Gulabo Sitabo.
The thing which keeps us going at times or to say the main catch of the film is that it isn't trying to be overly humorous.Although, the humor mainly comes up from the use of language and the way it was delivered. But you will chuckle every time Mirza (Bachchan) and Baankey Rastogi (Ayushmann Khurrana) scuffle and have a fight amongst themselves over small matters which get out of control at times.
Amitabh Bachchan who is the protagonist, an owner of a mahal which is basically gifted to his begam by her Parents, and the whole story is about how Mirza (Amitabh Bachchan) tries to be the actual owner of this ancient haveli. On the other hand, Ayushman Khurana is one of the tenants living in this haveli with the 3 sisters and his mother with more such families. And all these tenants indulge themselves in finding ways so that they don't have to leave the haveli. Well, the story is sort of realistic but a little uncatchy. This film goes a bit slow and is most of the time predictable. The color palette is warm to give it a feel of old times which seemed to work for the film.
In my opinion, they could have made it a bit more humorous maybe to keep the audience engaged and entertained. This film is surely just one-time watch.
